Active oxygen — peroxide-based — is the comfort sanitiser par excellence: no smell, gentle on skin and eyes, pleasant to live with. It acts fast and well in the moment, but doesn’t “hold” long in the water — especially in hot or very sunny water. The upside: comfort

The limit: persistence

Active oxygen’s Achilles’ heel is duration. Chlorine leaves an active reserve that protects the water between interventions; active oxygen, by contrast, acts then runs out quickly. On a large volume exposed to sun and use, that low persistence leaves windows of under-sanitisation where algae and bacteria can take hold. Hence the rule: excellent in a small, well-watched volume, to handle with care (or as a complement) on a large outdoor pool.
